2 September 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 2nd September [1880]. My 10th bath. Wrote, read & arranged things. At 4 had a visit from Mme Marliani & her daughter. Mme Marliani is the widow (still young) of the Senator M. a great friend of Henry’s—a very clever man who had been part of his life a Spaniard & then returned to Italy his own country & lived at Florence. The daughter is hers by a former husband. Henry showed them all the pictures we had & they stayed some time & we gave them tea. At 7.30 Morelli arrived from Milan, Giovanni having gone to the station to meet him. We dined at 8 & sat talking all the eveng & did not go out.
