18 September 1880 — Varenna | |
Saturday. 18th September [1880]. Wrote some letters. At 12 we started in a boat for Belaggio & had a pleasant row over. We went to the big hotel & lunched there. Before we left we met the Laurences of whom we took leave. They go to Florence from here. We went on to San Giovanni in our boat & walked up the hill to call on Mme Frizzoni. We found her & her son Gustave in & when we were leaving they took us down to the shore thro’ their lovely garden– We rowed back to Varenna by abt 4.30. Dined at 7 & played dominoes. | |
