2 November 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 2nd November [1880]. Painted all the morng. After lunch & I went out with Henry to the Stabilimento where we fetched Sr Benuzzi & went to see Signor Favretto’s studio. Found him in– I was very much disgusted—he does things in the Fortuny chic style—but he gets very large prices for things he does 4, & 5,000 fcs. He is a vulgar little man with one eye & his father was below working at his wood being a carpenter. We went from there to our own house to get our warm wraps the weather being chilly—we met M. Gustave Frizzoni & his friend at the door & we begged him to go in & see our pictures. Henry went to have his hair cut & I went to call on Mrs Bronson—she was out so I went into S. Marks & waited for Henry. Then we walked in the Piazza & the band was playing. At 4 Lady Bagot met us & we set abt going up the Campanile. We went up slowly & took abt ¼ hour getting to the top. There we waited to see the sun set wh was not very fine it being rather misty. Got home at 5 had tea & then set to work to my translation of the lace work. At 8 o’cl. Morelli & Cavenaghi arrived to stay with us.
