6 November 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 6th November [1880]. I worked away at my Turkish girl all day. Henry & Morelli went out together when they returned to tea in my studio Giovanni came up to say a gentleman called Spence had been here & said he wished much to see Henry as they had been school fellows– It was Mr Spence of Florence so we sent off to beg him to come & dine which he did. He was in the same tremendous spirits as he used to be when I was a child & he came to England. He sang comic songs of his own invention in the eveng & sent us into fits of laughter. Finished working a little shawl to send home for Blanche’s son & heir.
