7 November 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 7th [November 1880]. Morelli & Cavenaghi left us by the 9 o’cl train to return to Milan. We saw them off & then had breakfast. I did not go to church sat & wrote by the fire all the morning. Mr Spence came to luncheon & we took him out in the gondola to the Giardino Publico where we got out & walked. It was such a clear eveng that we could see the distant mountains bathed in light & reflected in the lagunes. We went after our walk round the outside of the Arsenal to see the view wh was splendid & we came home by the small canals. Spence came to dinner.
