11 November 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 11th November [1880]. Spence came & we both painted all the morning. Brown called & seemed very grumpy. Went out after luncheon & coming home got out at the Stabilimento & walked home from there. Worked at the translation of the Italian lace book after tea till dinner. Spence dined with us & we went afterwards to the Goldoni Theatre to see an actress called Marini who is supposed to be one of the best Italian actresses of the day. She had such stupid pieces to act in that we could not even admire her acting & were glad to come away in the middle of it at 10 o’cl.
