20 November 1880 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 20th [November 1880]. Better & up to breakfast. Went on with painting Turkish girl till lunch. After lunch read at 3 went out to leave cards on Mr & Mrs Field American friends of Emilia Riaños staying at the Britannia. Then went to tea at Mr Brown’s—met the Bagots all except Ld B. who was not well & Mr Malcolm. Old Mr Brown was in high good humour. Tony the gondolier & a waiter both in white neckcloths waited on us. The dining room was lighted up & all looked pleasant & comfortable. We came home abt 6 & found Mme Marcello had called being here for a few hours only– We dined upstairs in the library– Read in the evening.
