9 January 1881 — Naples | |
Sunday. 9th January [1881]. My head not being well I stayed in bed till the afternoon. At 4 I got up. Lady Holland sent her maid in the carriage to take Hill for a drive to her great delight. We dined at table d’hôte & Mr Franks also dined next us & came up to our room. At 9 I dressed & we went to Lady Hollands for an hour. We walked there & back. It was a cold but very fine night. Every body was talking of young Menabreas’ attempt to commit suicide at Rome– | |
