30 January 1881 — Rome
Sunday. 30th January [1881]. I woke with a headache & only got up in time to [go] with Henry to lunch with the Warrington Woods at Villa Campana– Met there the Trollopes, Marchesa de Medici, an English lady wife of the King’s ADC Genl. Medici a very nice person, Signor Azurro the President of St Luke’s Academy. It rained hard so we cd not go out of the studio & lunched in the inner one. Afterwards several people came. Mr & Mrs Mason & a daughter who sang to the organ—Mr Morgan—Mrs Ramsay & Miss Garden whom we had known at Madrid where they had dined with us. At 4.30 Mr Morgan took us back to our hotel in his carriage. It still poured. Had a visit from Signor Massari who sat talking some time. Then Count Maffei came & chatted till dinner time. We dined at home & went early to bed.
