4 February 1881 — Rome | |
Friday. 4th February [1881]. Henry & I went to the Villa. He sat & I modelled & we returned home to lunch at ¼ 1. Visit directly after from Mrs Bagot. Profr Bernabei came & we went off with him to the Forum Romano. We went round by Hotel Bristol to invite Sir G. Bowen & Mr A. Campbell. They joined us at the Capitol where we went first. Sigr Bernabei explained to us all the latest discoveries there– Then we went to the Forum & Sigr Bernabei took us all over it describing it minutely & explaining the whole thing to us. We found there a large party of tourists being lectured to on the subject but we managed to avoid them. It was past 4 when we had seen all. I went to call on Lady Bagot. Found her better & she had been out. As I came in at 5 I met Mrs Meyer & Miss Schwabe on the stairs & they paid us a visit. Sr Errera also called being at Rome for 2 or 3 days. He returns tomorrow to Naples. We dined at home. Wrote & played dominos. | |
