26 February 1881 — Rome | |
Saturday. 26th February [1881]. I went up to Villa Campana alone & Henry came & fetched me home. Mme Castellani & Profr Barnabei came to see our busts & my work. Mr Wood was kind eno’ to stand by me & direct my work & I made a good deal of progress. We lunched with the de Bülows– I did not go out as I had a bad cold & was tired. Mme de Bülow & I had tea at 5. Genl. & Lady Eyre called. We dined at home with the Bülows. Went in the eveng for an hour to Mme Minghetti’s. Met a few people there but not many the world was gone either to the Artists’ ball or to the Japanese Minister’s ball. Home early. | |
