16 March 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Wednesday. 16th March [1881]. Packed & arranged papers &c. Went out with Henry after luncheon to the Piazza to speak to Ongania abt the proofs of the Lacebook translation. He was out. Went to Partillo & he told Henry of a wonderful invention of his in a ship’s compass wh was not subject to the influences of surrounding iron. We took a walk in the Piazzetta. Called in at the Stabilimento & then went home. Had a small dinner party. Css Marcello & Theresa Marcello, M. Blumenthal & Mr & Mme Castellani. The Misses Montalba, Mrs Hannover & Andria Marcello came in the eveng to tea. | |
