20 March 1881 — Turin
Sunday. 20th [March 1881]. Walked across to station & left by 8.40 train for Paris. We had places in a sleeping car & were very comfortable. Were only 26 minutes going thro’ the tunnel Mont Cenis. Met our friend the chef de mouvement M.                at Modane. We breakfasted there & went on. Got to Culoz abt 5 & had to dine there as we were not to stop long eno’ at Macon as one used to. However when we got there we found that the Lyons train was so heavy they had to let it go on alone & send us in ½ hour later—so we got to Paris abt 6 on
