7 May 1881 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 7th [May 1881]. It was a lovely warm day & Monty took me for a walk in the Park. We walked down Piccadilly & up & down the Row but did not meet many people we knew. It was almost too hot to be in the sun & the air was clear & bright—the trees newly come out were fresh & green & it was an exceptional day for England. I did not get home in time for lunch– I found Maria & Henry at lunch. Directly after lunch Dr Cottle came up & vaccinated me & a good many of the servants. I took Henry out driving & we went to call on Mrs De Gex & found her at home. left cards & came home by 5. Blanche & Nety Montagu came to tea & later Capt. Victor Montague & Monty. Henry & I dined with Baroness Burdett Coutts and met there Sir Stafford & Lady Northcote, Ld & Ly Muncaster, D. & Dss of St Albans, Mrs & Miss King Harman, Genl. & Ly Dickson &c a great big dinner. I was fortunate eno’ to have Sir Collingwood Dickson to take me to dinner & so had a pleasant evening & Henry was delighted at having sat next to Dss of St Albans, daughter of his old friend Bernal Osborne–
