11 May 1881 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 11th May [1881]. I wrote part of the morng but my head ached so I had to go & lie down on the sofa in Henry’s study & there remained all day. Cecil Alderson came to see me– Blanche came & sat with me in the afternoon. I got up & dressed & went out to dine with the Whites Henry’s cousins at 10 Devonshire Place. Mr Sherbrook took me down & I sat between him & our host Mr S. has married Lord Cairn’s daughter Lady Lilias. He told me he had been in the army & had gone into the Church. He was evidently very Low Church & talked religion most of the eveng. There was a little music & some talk & then we went home.
