19 May 1881 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 19th May [1881]. Henry insisted that the Gregorys had invited us to lunch today so we ordered the carriage at 1.30 & when Hy returned from breakfasting with Sir Wm Drake we drove off together. We found it was tomorrow they expected us so we went on to see Aunt Felicia at 49 Easton Place & found her at home & met Uncle Bertie & May at the door & they made us go up & lunch there. Met at lunch Mrs Lushington & a Mr G. Tredcroft– Afterwards the latter & I set to work to help Felicia to rearrange her drawing furniture. The house she has belongs to the Professional beauty Mrs Cornwallis West—& is very dirty & the furniture & hangings only tacked together for effect– There is a good studio at the back where Mr West paints & Mrs W. was photod. Felicia took me out driving afterwards & then left me at home with little Evelyn Bertie her youngest girl & I gave her tea & we were joined by Eda & Nellie Alderson. Had a little dinner party at home consisting of Genl. Baker Pasha, Sir Collingwood & Lady Dickson, Mr Cartwright M.P., Arthur Otway M.P., Monty, Arthur, Col. Wood (Ld Halifax son) & Mr A. Burke (Ld Mayo’s brother). Pleasant evening. Sir John Drummond Hay came in the eveng & there was a great deal of talk abt Tunis–
