2 June 1881 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 2nd [June 1881]. Wrote &c in the morng. Connie came & I settled to drive her in the afternoon & went to Céciles for her at 3 where I found half our family assembled. I drove Connie to Vauxhall station & she went down to see Pss Frederica at Hampton Ct. I then went to call on Miss Drake who was out & on to see Lady Gregory & her son & heir. I found Sir Wm also in & sat with them ½ hour. Both were delightfully happy over the child. They have asked Henry to be godfather & the name is to be “Wm Robert.” I came home to tea & had visit from Blanche & Lady Louisa Ponsonby. I begged B to send Edward to dine with us as Mrs Hobart had thrown us over being ill– We had a small dinner party consisting of Hobart Pasha, Ld & Ly Somers, Lady Galloway, Mr Sanderson, Mr Philip Currie, Alice Du Cane & Edward Ponsonby & Sir Wm Gregory & Dicky Doyle. After dinner Miss Cocks came to join Lady Somers and sang to us a few songs. Lady Somers was anxious to make us go to spent Whitsuntide at Eastnor but we could not accept as we shd be back on Tuesday and it is too long a journey for 3 days.
