4 June 1881 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 4th June [1881]. Dr Burton came to see Henry & almost at the same time Frederic came & Sir Stafford Northcote. Henry said he was very nice & kind & assured him that he wd not offer any opposition in the House to any appointment that might be given Henry. Afterwards I went out driving with Blanche & helped her to shop. Of course we went to Ceciles abt the “Faire” dress & then we tried to get her a round feather fan. I only got home in time for lunch. Afterwards I drove Henry down to Lady Hammonds & found her & Ld H. at home. I went upstairs & had a long chat with her while Henry remained with him. Then we changed places. I took Henry home & went on to call on Mrs Austen who was wonderfully well & received me. I did not remain very long. As we passed St James’ Club we saw Arthur in the window so we stopped & begged him to come & dine with us wh he did.
