9 June 1881 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 9th June [1881]. Henry went to Philobiblion Breakfast at Mr Gibbs’ St Dunstan’s & sent back the carriage for me. I went shopping & then looked in to see Blanche who offered to let me in to the Bazaar with her pass. I went to the dentist at 12.45 & there was joined by Henry & we came home in the brougham. Found Mrs Rassam waiting for me on our return. We had luncheon & she stayed lunch– At ½ past 2 Blanche & Kate Ponsonby called for me & I followed them in a hansom down to the Albert Hall & got in without any trouble. Tho’ 5/ day there was a great crowd. I went with little Evely Eliot to the theatre & saw a capital piece called “The Clerical Error” & then Toole did an impromptu thing a deaf & irrascible magistrate hearing cases in Court. It made us laugh very much. When we came out there was such a crowd that we could not get back into the Arena—& the child managed to squeeze in & I went home in a hansom. Mrs Hobart Hampden called at 5 also Mrs Robert Bruce & . We went to dine at Mrs Clarks 44 Berkeley Square. Genl. Bourke took me to dinner & I sat between him & Mr Clark– The Lindseys & Lady Elisabeth Bertie, Mrs Hussey Vivian &c dined there. Dull dinner & not sorry to get to bed–
