13 June 1881 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 13th June [1881]. Blanche & I went out shopping together in morning. Mrs Burr came to lunch & was astonished to hear of my Norwegian plans. After lunch Henry & I went down to Oatlands lodge by train to stay with Sir Wm Drake for Ascot week. He & Ella were alone. Mr Bircham came over to dine from his place near. He was very much cut up at the ruin Huntly has come to– He having to fly the country having lost every penny & some say not too honestly but this one cannot believe. Mr Bircham was very nice & kind in his way of talking of all our family & was delighted at meeting me again after many years & asked affecty after all the brothers & sisters.
