18 July 1881 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Monday. 18th July [1881]. Henry went out fishing before breakfast & caught a salmon abt 14½ lbs. Breakfast at 10. I then went down to the river bank & went on with the sketch of the valley. I worked on till 3 & then looking up, found the Genl. close to me having caught a fish. I went home & he returned to dinner at 4 with 3 fish & Monty with one. The carpenter began to build at our porch of wood. After dinner Henry went up to Bjornes to fish and the Genl. to Frieswold. I waited a long time for Monty who was waiting to get his new contract with the Frieswold people signed. At last it was done and Monty & I started down to the riverbank & he fished but got nothing & we went down to the Fjord to find our old fisherman. He had given us up & gone off fishing. His son rowed us to him & there we tried trolling. I caught one trout & then we returned. Monty fished again. I went in & played cribbage with Henry who came home without fish. The Genl. brought home 2 more fish & Monty 1– Supper 10 & bed–
