20 July 1881 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Wednesday. 20th July [1881]. Henry caught no fish before breakfast & came in rather low in his mind & wishing he had gone to England– We wrote our letters for the post and Monty went down to Noste to the post & Henry & I went down to cast at the bank but caught nothing. We came in & Henry read the papers & Monty & I went down to the river bank at Pflen & we both cast there but caught nothing & then I sat down in the moss & Monty sat down too and smoked & talked till it suddenly grew chilly & then he got up & fished over at bank again—seeing it was useless we went home to dinner. After dinner I went out fishing in the Fjord with old Ericson but I only caught 2 whiting & he 3. We returned disgusted. The Genl. came in with a grilse & a trout & then we had supper & went to bed before Monty came in.
