21 July 1881 — Syltebo, Romsdalsfjord
Thursday. 21st July [1881]. Henry went out fishing but caught nothing. Monty and Henry went off to Hunde, the top of the river to fish right down the river. I staid at home & superintended the making of a new rockery with the “Old Man & a young Syltebö.” Then I made a list of Monty’s books & Herbert made an inventory of furniture. It poured most of the morning & I went out between whiles. I finished copying translation of the Bobbin lace—& then went out again & superintended making of a path to back of the house. Monty came in just before 5 saying Henry had a grilse on & was still fishing. The fishing had not been good at Hunde & they only caught trout. We dined at 5 & Monty went out again & the Genl. too. Henry & I remained at home. He & I played cribbage till supper. It poured the whole eveng & Monty came in early having taken nothing. Bed early—before the Genl. returned. The porch was finished & looked very nice.
