5 August 1881 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 5th [August 1881]. I had promised to go & see Mama this morning but after breakfast Monty & I sat to work & did our accounts together which took us till lunch time without stopping. Mr Otway came to lunch– Dr Burton paid us a last medical visit, Ivor also called. Monty lunched with us. At 2.30 Mrs Hambro’s brougham fetched me & took me to Holland House. I took Monty to the Albert Hall where he was going to judge furniture & went on & found Lady Holland at home. She was very kind & wished we could have dined with her. I went home & Henry & I went off to Milton by 4.55 train from Victoria. Mrs Rate met us at the station & Mr Tom Hughes was with her on his way to stay at Wotton. He went to Milton with us & had tea & then went on– Henry played tennis. I & Alice talked till dinner– Sat in the loggia in the eveng.
