13 August 1881 — Paris | |
Saturday. 13th August [1881]. Had a hard day’s work shopping. After breakfast I walked out with Henry. We went to DuCroquet’s & ordered 2 gowns—then to Rue Halevy in search of a bonnet which I did not find to my taste– We went to Rue Scribe to take our places in the wagon lits for Turin on Monday night & then on to Levelion to order another foulard gown– While I was trying on gown there Henry went to the Embassy & came back for me & we drove home & had lunch– We had been into a shop to try & buy me a jacket but found nothing so after lunch Hill & I posted off to the Bon Marché where I got one & we did other small commissions & only got back to the Hotel at 4.30. Found Mme Levelion waiting to “try on.” Had some tea & ½ hour rest. Then Henry took me to Mme DuBoquet to be tried on & afterwards to a bonnet shop but I could find nothing & the next day being Sunday & the day after fête I could order nothing. Went home & just as I was going into the hotel I bethought me of a little shop opposite & so I skipped across & found a very nice little white straw bonnet with dark green velvet wh bought for 40 fr & I gave another bonnet to be done up for 45 fr. We then went home– Dined at 7.30 & played cribbage in the evening. | |
