17 August 1881 — Turin
Wednesday. 17th August [1881]. We left Turin by 9.15 train for Milan & had a dusty but not very hot journey. By the time we arrived at 12.30 it was raining pretty sharp– We went to the Hotel Cavour & got rooms there—lunched & then went to the Exhibition close by. We went first to the Venice & Murano glass & were much pleased with the things exposed. We also very much admired the majolica of Ginori &                & the faiences of Antonibon– We spent till nearly 6 going about & then walked home & rested till dinner. Dined at 7 alone & played cribbage & read till bed time.
