21 August 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 21st [August 1881]. Hot scirocco weather. Read all the morning the last Quarterly. Lunch at 1. Sat downstairs in boudoir & read. Visit from Signor Ferrari of Verona– Later Prince Teano called & sat some time chatting. He told us that tho’ he was a friend of the Pagets he had greatly desired to see Henry at the Embassy at Rome & that such was the dislike of the Queen of Italy to Lady Paget that he did not believe they could remain long there. At 4.30 went out to see Mr Rawdon Brown whom we found a good deal better & his head quite clear. He talked very little abt his accident. His hand is still in a sling & much swollen– He insisted on walking with me to the top of the stairs when we left– Returned home & read till dinner at 7. While at dinner the serenade boat past down with a band playing. At 8.30 we went out & joined it on its return. There was a very good military band & a good cornet a piston. At the iron bridge it stopped & we went on to the Piazza where there was also a band & a great crowd of people we walked abt till 10.15 & then came home & went to bed.
