24 August 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Wednesday. 24th [August 1881]. Scirocco. Read—painted—wrote– lunch at 1. Henry went out in gondola abt 4 & went to see the Exhibition that is being got up for the Congress. He also went to see Mr Blumenthal brothers whom he found dreadfully cut up at the catastrophe—Mme C. Blumenthal having left husband & 3 children & taken her self off with a lover. Mr Malcolm came & dined with us at 7 and we took him afterwards to the Piazza & we walked abt while the band played. Came home at 10– Played cribbage till bed time. | |
