28 August 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 28th August [1881]. Hot & cloudy. Spent the whole day sorting, tearing up and arranging old letters– There came on a most welcome thunderstorm in the course of the morning & very heavy rain wh slightly cleaned the air. In the afternoon it returned & there was a great deal of lightening & very heavy rain wh made the air grow delightfully cool. I had only finished my letters by dinner time & had to hurry down to receive Prince Teano who dined with us. We dined in the long gallery & afterwards sat in the boudoir & the gentl smoked. At 8.30 we went out in gondola to the Piazza taking the Prince with us & walked up & down while band played & left Prince there & returned home—cribbage—bed.
