29 August 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 29th [August 1881]. Pleasant cool weather. Signor Felice came with a stand and a lot of clay & set me up a figure head for me to model but the girl who was to have come to sit for me never turned up so he had at last to leave it & promised to bring her tomorrow if he could. Finished arranging my letters. After lunch had a great tidying up & arranging of the studio hangg up bits of silk &c with Giovanni’s help which took me till 5 after wh I put on my dressing gown & laid down & read in my bedroom till dinner time. Henry went out abt 4 to see Brown & then came & sat with me & read. After dinner we took a row & then ½ hour’s walk on the Piazza– Band played– Cribbage.
