5 October 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 5th [October 1881]. Wrote several letters & painted in the morning. Mrs Eden came to see me after lunch. Then we went out to try & find the Rénans who have been staying here but we were told at the Victoria that they left this morning for Rome. Went to Trapolin to try & buy some silk for transferring my embroidered flowers. Henry walked from there to call on Brown. I went in the gondola to Guggenheim’s to consult him about the stuff & he promised to get me some. I met Sir F. Leighton there. Came home. Pasted in despatch book till dinner. Mr & Miss Browning, Sir F. Leighton & Mr Field (US) dined with us. We had a pleasant evening. Browning was in very good force. He made me take him up to see my modelling—& was kind eno’ to approve. They all left us at 11.
