17 October 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 17th [October 1881]. Pucci came & gave me a singing lesson from 10 to 11. I worked at Cortelazzos bust he sitting to me. His pupil Angelo came from Vicenza & they went to fetch back our inlaid steel & silver things from the Academia where we had lent them for Exhibition. After lunch Henry went out with the Burys. I remained at home intending to have another sitting from Cortelazzo but he had gone to the station to see his pupil on the way home with the tea service he is making wh was also at the Exbn. However I worked on till past 4. Had a visit from Mrs Bronson. We had a great talk abt religion & we both lamented there was no better clergyman than the one here at present. She promised to lend me some of Browning’s poems to read. Henry came home before she left. I copied for Henry & transposed a song I want to learn. Mr Spence arrived abt 7 to stay with us. After dinner I sang and he played the piano a little. Played cribbage with Henry.
