27 October 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 27th [October 1881]. All breakfasted downstairs at 9. Then Connie came & wrote in my studio & I modelled. The children went out walking with Giovanni. Lunch at 1.30. Visit from Vicomte & Vicomtesse de Soveral & daughter. He a Portuguese—she English. We knew them in Madrid & they also have a house in London. Went out in the gondola with Connie, Henry, Charlie & the 2 girls. Mr Spence walked. We went to the Piazza– Took Connie into St Marks church & then all round the Procuratie to the Bridge of Sighs & then came home. Mr Peters paid a visit. Practised singing for an hour. Charlie took the girls for a walk. Went down with Connie to look out music & then she played the piano till dressing time. Dined at 8. Mr Lowell, American Minister in London dined with us & also Mr Field. Music in eveng.
