28 October 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 28th October [1881]. Breakfasted at 9. At 10 singing lesson of Signor Pucci at wh Connie & the children assisted & sang. Dr Richetti came to see Connie & saw Henry about the singing in his ear wh he said was only from wax. Modelled till lunch. Connie & I went out with Mr Spence. The 2 girls set to work to scrub the stairs much to the surprise of the household– After lunch Connie & the girls went out in the sandolo with Idita Hurtado & Henry went off to fetch the Gregorys at the station by the 2.40 train. Gave them some luncheon. M. & Mme la Croix turned up to our great surprise being only in Venice for a few days. Henry took the Gregorys & Charlie to the Piazza—the sandolo going at the same time. I sat still & rested—& read. Idita came to tea & then we practised the guitars together. Came up to studio & helped Connie to clean her styrographic pens. Dined at 8. Spence turned out & went to the hotel. But came & dined. We could not keep him not having room for all. Cribbage & music in evening.
