30 October 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 30th [October 1881]. Breakfast at 9. Sat in the drawing room till church time, I & little Evely tried to get a stain of tea out of the carpet. Went to church with Lady Gregory, Charlie & the 2 children & did not remain for the sermon. We lunched at 1 & directly after Henry took the Gregorys & Eliots to the Academy to see the pictures & sent the gondola back to fetch me & I went & joined them, but I felt so unwell that I had to come back home & lie down. They returned abt 4.30. Put up some flowers sent me by Mr Malcolm with Lady Gregory’s help & then went down to tea. Henry went to call on Rawdon Brown & came in after the others. Mr Spence also came to luncheon & stayed the afternoon & to dinner. After tea Connie & I & Evely spent all the time till dinner moving the drawing room furniture & arranging the rooms. Dined at . Connie played piano. Early to bed.
