4 November 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 4th November [1881]. I did not get up till late not feeling quite right. Connie came while I was in bed & rearranged my bedroom & then Lady Bagot came & I had to hurry up. She came up to the studio & sat some time with me telling me all that happened at Rome this spring when the Pagets were to have left & Henry to have had the post. Sir Wm Gregory was rather unwell having his lips dreadfully swollen. Charlie & the girls walked to the Piazza—Henry, the Gregorys, Connie & I went out in the gondola. We went to the Seminario to show them the busts & the pictures & I studied the busts attentively. We all went to Ongania’s for me to speak about the Lace Book translation & then Connie, the children & I went paying visits. We found Mrs Bronson at home & also Mme Canevaro and we left many cards & got home after 5 to tea. Idita came & the girls sang Connie songs to her. Then Connie & I sat & chatted till dinner time. Cribbage & music in evening.
