6 November 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 6th November [1881]. It was a horridly foggy day so we gave up all idea of going to church– We sat in the studio & I made cigarettes for Henry. Connie had news of the sudden death of old Lady Mt Edgecumbe & was very cut up. We were all in music room taking our coffee & roaring over a joke of Connie’s when the door opened & 3 ladies & a man walked in– We did not recognise them till Connie gasped out Mrs Lowther, & we at once recognised the Lowther family. They paid us a long visit, after wh Henry & Lady Gregory went out & left the 2 girls at Idita Hurtado’s to have tea there. Mrs Eden came to tea & arranged to take Connie walking tomorrow. Connie played piano in evening.
