17 November 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 17th November [1881]. The fog continued & got thicker than ever. I worked away hard at the Bust as Cortelazzo wanted to leave by the 1 train for Vicenza. After lunch Henry & Connie walked together and I & Charlie & Mr Burton were to join them at the Piazza. Mrs Eden came as we were starting so I went with her in her gondola to see her husband & Mr B. & Charlie joined us there. We went on to the Piazzetta after paying our visit & took a turn with Connie & Henry in the Piazza joined by P. Metternich– It was raw & horrid & the fog was very wet & was not sorry to get home. Connie, Charlie & Mr B. walked home. Stuck in despatches– Mme Hurtado, Idita & Mrs Eden dined with us. Mme Canevaro came in the evening & we had music. She sang, Bee played violin, & Connie played.
