18 November 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 18th November [1881]. Fine weather at last. I modelled all the morning. Connie went out with Charlie & Mrs Eden who came to fetch them. In the afternoon we all went out in the gondola except Mr Burton– We went to the Piazza & walked a little. Met the Metternichs who invited us to go to them Sunday evening. On my saying we preferred not to go out Sundays they asked us for Monday night. Henry & I went to Ongania’s about the Lace translation. We went to Richetti’s having heard he had some curious glass bottles. They were in an old leather case of cinquecento style stamped with figures. The bottles themselves were squarish and plain & had each a saint in the Greek style painted on them. Henry & Charlie walked home, the rest of us hurried home as Mr Eden had promised to come to us. He was carried up & laid on the sofa & there remained for 1½ hour & while Connie played the piano, Bee fiddled & the 2 girls sang comic songs– Cribbage in eveng.
