22 November 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 22nd November [1881]. I worked all the morning at modelling. Connie went out. Mr Burton came up abt 11.30 & look leave of us & departed for Ferrara having at length made up his mind to move. He seems to have grown more undecided than ever he was. After lunch Henry & Charlie walked to the Piazza. Connie & I went in the gondola to see Css Olga whom we found better but on the sofa. From there we went to Hotel Britannia & Connie left me to call on Lady Bagot & went on to the Piazza to meet Charlie. I found Mrs Eden with Lady B. The latter was laid up with a bad throat & looked ill. Henry came back in the gondola to fetch me & we went to call on the Edens. Mr Eden had a bad cold– Had tea there & excellent brown bread & butter. Came home & taught Bee & Evely to sing “Secret voices” & then went up & stuck despatches till dinner. Dinner at 8. Cribbage– I wrote letters.
