28 November 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 28th November [1881]. I remained in bed all the morning as I was not very well. Pasted in despatches for Henry. Andriana Marcello came to see me & sat talking a long time. Hill & Giovanni began to arrange the drawing rooms & put away things. When I got up in the afternoon I went down & helped P. Metternich– Mlle Cozzi came to call but did not stay to tea. Mme Hurtado, Idita & Css Pallfy & her daughter came to call also Css Olga Mocenigo. When all were gone but Css Olga & Idita the children sang & Connie sang & was in the wildest of spirits & did all kinds of tricks keeping us all in roars of laughter. Mme Marcello fetched Connie a little after 8 & took her to the theatre to see Mme Marini act. Mr Malcolm dined with us. Henry & Charlie played backgammon in the evening.
