4 December 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 4th December [1881]. I sent off the ladies to church & sat quiet packing my bag. Olga Mocenigo came from 11 to 12 & sat chatting. After luncheon Henry & I had a visit from Css Usedom. She is 6 feet & broad in proportion—& has a peculiar little lisp wh seems out of place with such an enormous creature. She was very pleasant & her mother most affecate & she kissed me in parting. Then came a succession of visits. Mrs Eden came & sat some time while I made Henry’s cigarettes—then came Marquesa Bentivoglio & her daughter, then Mrs Ker. Css Marcello & Theresa, Mrs Bronson, Css Valmarana, Mme Hurtado & Idita, Css Olga & M. de Pilat. It was past 6 when they were all gone & I was tired. We dined at 8 & bed early.
