5 December 1881 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 5th December [1881]. We left every thing in order– Gave Ercoli orders to leave today—& we went off by the 9 o’cl train. At the station were old Rawdon Brown with a large box of baiccoli for our provision de voyage, Idita Hurtado, Css Olga Mocenigo & M. & Mme Castellani. It was a lovely day when we left Venice but on the mainland we soon got into a cold fog wh continued all the way to Turin except just at the Lago de Guarda. We breakfasted at Verona– Cortelazzo met us at Vicenza & we had 5 mins. talk with him. We got to Turin at 8. & went to Grand Hotel de Turin where we found the Eliots had ordered our rooms & dinners. Dined & early to bed.
