20 December 1881 — Langham House, Portland Place
Tuesday. 20th December [1881]. I went round to see Blanche directly after breakfast & then went back & we started for Waterloo Station & left by the 10.30 train for Blandford. Arthur had ordered a luncheon basket to be put in our carriage wh was a great thing. When we got to Salisbury we opened it & enjoyed a good meal. We had to change at Templecombe. At Blandford we found Luff at the station. Monty’s carriage met us & drove us the 8 miles to Milton Abbey; we arrived there abt 4. Susan & Mr Hambro, & Lina & Major Okeden & Nety were the only people there. Dined at 7.30. Henry & Susan played cribbage. It blew a gale all night.
