25 December 1881 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset | |
Sunday. 25th December 1881. Christmas Day. Breakfast at 10. Church at 11 with Henry, home at 12.30. Wrote letters. After lunch wh was at 2 went to church again at 3 with Ivor. Had tea at 5. Dined at 8. Mr & Mrs Damer & Mr & Mrs & Miss Patterson dined also the 2 governesses & the 6 elder children– In the middle of dinner the carol singers came to sing outside the windows & then Ivor had them to sing in the hall– After dinner the small Guest family sang hymns in discordant tones, having no ear for music & after a little table talk we were glad to end a melancholy evening by going to bed. Henry suffered a good deal from a boil in his nostril wh made him feel CD. | |
