9 January 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 9th January [1882]. I wanted to finish a piece of work I was doing for Mrs Hambro so I worked at it nearly all day. Arthur came in to see me & stayed to luncheon. Henry & I went out for the first time in the brougham we have hired for 3 months from Newmans. We went to the S. Kensington Museum & saw Sir Philip Owen about getting some photos & books for an Art school at Venice. Sir P. promised to send some out. Went to the F.O. where Henry wanted to see Mr Sanderson & let Ld Granville know he was in England. I left Henry at Garland’s Hotel to see Sir Fenwick Williams & Col. de Winton. Came home to tea. Mr L. Burton came to see me—later Col. de Winton came—& Henry returned. Blanche & Arthur came & dined with us.
