10 January 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 10th January [1882]. I went out driving at 12 and fetched Blanche. Went to Jackson & Graham’s to see for a sofa horridly dear! Went to 2 dressmakers in search of a tea gown—very dear! things are getting ruinous. Home to lunch. Henry & I went to Mrs Austen’s & were let in– We found her just woke up from sleep gasping & very ill. The maid said it was nothing & she often was like that when she woke from a dose. We thought it more prudent to leave her– Went on to Maple’s where Henry chose me a sofa for my bedroom & some other things we wanted for the house. We went to Langham House to see Mama. She was in we went up on being assured there was no infection to be feared from Connie’s youngest boy who has scarletina there. Went home by 5. Blanche & Arthur dined with us. Just as they had left the house we found Ash had received a telegram that Monty was coming up by the mail train. He arrived abt 4 A.M.
