22 February 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 22nd February [1882]. Ash Wednesday. Down at abt 11. Worked sewing machine. Made cigarettes. Henry went to the city. At 1:20 Prescott Hewitt the surgeon came to consult about my knee. He says I have rheumatic gout & prescribed accordingly warm sea bathing for it. Blanche came to luncheon—& then we went together driving & did a lot of shopping & she dropped me here at 5. Mrs Burr came to tea & no one else. We dined with the Granvilles a great diplomatic dinner. P. Ghika took me in & I sat next the Greek chargés d’affaires who speaks English very well. After dinner I had a talk with Lady Napier & then with the Russian Ambr Labanoff & Lord Granville who was very amusing. A few people came in the eveng but being Ash Wedy the number was very limited.
