23 February 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 23rd February [1882]. I walked to Blanche’s in the morning to fetch her to go shopping. I went on to see Susan Hambro while Blanche was getting ready & she fetched me from there & we walked to “Ceciles” the dressmaker in Duke St & then back up Oxford St & we parted at Vere St each walking to our respective homes to luncheon. Went with Henry to the Nat. Gallery to see Mr Burton but he was not there. Henry waited for him while I went to leave cards on the Speaker but when I returned he was not there so Henry went to the club & I went on my way to leave some cards. I went to Langham Hse & found the M. at home. Whilst I was there a fog came on suddenly & it became very dark. There was a Levee today to wh Monty went but Henry put off till another time. Blanche came to tea also Mr & Mrs Oldfield, Mrs Willy Hanson & Mr Hamilton Lacy who is going back to Consple. We dined at Mrs Burrs & met Sir J. Lubbock, Mrs Jeune, Mrs Kay & Mrs Brooke (the Ranee of Surawak). The Squire’s gout seemed better.
