12 March 1882 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 12th March [1882]. I went to church at St George’s Hanover Sqr & while I was waiting for a seat I spied Ivor in the gallery where he has a pew & I went up to him I found he had some of the children with him & I went on to Mr Clark’s pew & he gave me a place. Mrs Clark & their son were there. We had an excellent sermon from the Rector of St Pancras on “I bear in my body the marks of the Lord.” I walked a little way with Ivor, the Clarks & “the M & S” who were also at church & then I came home to luncheon—Monty was at luncheon. Abt 3 I walked up to Blanche’s—she was out. I went to Susan—ditto. I went to the M. she was at home– I sat with her a little while & then returned to B—she had not come in so I set off home. In Cavendish Square I met Blanche with the 2 children who were coming home from church & so I turned back with them. We met Mme d’Antas walking & talked to her. Had tea with Blanche & sat talking. Mr Goschen came to call on her & sat some time talking. I asked him what he thought of Monty’s vote on Bradlaugh. He said he cd not have voted otherwise—but that he Goschen had had an anxious moment for on looking back when they were going to decision he saw Monty in the clutches of Col. Taylor who was trying to persuade him to vote against Bradlaugh. I went home in a hansom– We dined alone & played cribbage.
